- Aeronautical Engineering

Aeronautical engineering is a branch of aerospace engineering that focuses on the design, development, testing and production of aircraft. 

Aeronautical engineers use mathematics, theory, and problem-solving skills to design and build helicopters, airplanes, and drones. They also study the aerodynamic properties of aircraft and building materials.

Aeronautical Engineers work with:

  • All types of aircraft, helicopters, drones and missiles
  • Fixed and rotary wing aircraft
  • Space vehicle
  • Other vehicles and systems operating in aerodynamic or hydrodynamic environments (such as submarines and wind turbines)

 

- Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineers apply scientific, technical and mathematical principles to:

  • Research, design, develop, maintain and test the performance of civil and military aircraft
  • Weapons, satellites, and even space vehicles

The difference between these two types of aerospace engineering is that aeronautical engineers explore systems that operate within the Earth’s atmosphere and astronautical engineers are concerned with objects that operate outside the atmosphere, like satellites, rockets and shuttles.
