Bond Investment
- Overview
A bond is a fixed income instrument that represents a loan made by an investor to a borrower (usually a company or government). A bond can be thought of as an I.O.U. between a lender and a borrower, including details of the loan and its payments. Corporations, municipalities, states, and sovereign governments use bonds to finance projects and operations. The owner of the bond is the debt holder or creditor of the issuer.
The bond details include the end date when the loan principal is due to be paid to the bond owner, often including the terms of variable or fixed interest paid by the borrower.
