- Overview

Plant science is the term for a range of studies and scientific studies exploring the approximately 410,000 species of land plants found on Earth.

Plant science is the study of how plants are used to produce food, modify the environment, restore damaged landscapes, improve human health and well-being, enhance communities, and provide recreational and practical benefit to the public.

Plant science is critical to sustaining the world around us. For generations, plant scientists have worked to improve the quality of life for people around the world.

Population growth and climate change will affect food security and may exacerbate the environmental damage to the planet from agriculture. These existential concerns call for fostering a passionate, interdisciplinary and diverse community of plant science professionals in the 21st century.

- Reimagining the Potential of Plants for a Healthy and Sustainable Future

Plants and the biological systems that surround them hold the key to the future health of the planet and its inhabitants. Plant science builds our ability to conduct important and far-reaching research in the field of plant systems science, which is critical to how we evaluate participants and apply emerging technologies.

Plant systems science will benefit from future advances in data management and automation, machine learning, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence-assisted data integration, pattern recognition, and decision-making.

The research includes experimental and computational approaches to understand and predict ecosystem behavior; novel food, feed, and fiber production systems with greater crop diversity, efficiency, productivity, and resilience that improve ecosystem health; Approaches to the potential for advancements in drug discovery and engineering and "green infrastructure".

- Plant Biology Research

Plant biology is a key field of science that plays an important role in current and future human efforts to address the consequences of global warming, climate change, pollution and population growth.

A solid understanding of plant physiology is critical to our ability to optimize current agricultural practices, develop new crop varieties, or implement innovations in agricultural biotechnology.

The next generation of cultivars must be able to withstand environmental contamination and a wider range of growing temperatures, soil nutrient and moisture levels, and effectively respond to increasing pathogen pressure in order to continue to produce high yields even under suboptimal conditions.
