AI in Crop and Soil Monitoring

Nutrients in soil are key factors affecting crop health and yield quantity and quality. Then, once the crop is in the soil, monitoring the growth stage is also critical for optimizing production efficiency. Today, soil quality and crop health are traditionally determined by human observation and judgment. But this approach is neither accurate nor timely.
Instead, we can now use unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to capture aerial image data and train computer vision models to use it to intelligently monitor crop and soil conditions. Manual observations can accurately identify the growth stages of wheat, which means farmers no longer have to trudge into the fields every day to inspect crops.
The importance of soil, another study aimed to understand how well computer vision can characterize soil texture and soil organic matter (SOM). Often, evaluating soils requires farmers to dig up samples and bring them to a laboratory for time-consuming and energy-intensive analysis.
