- Overview

Spintronics (meaning a compound word for spin transport electronics, also known as spintronics, is the study of the intrinsic spin of electrons in solid-state devices and its associated magnetic moment, as well as its fundamental electronic charge. Spin The field of electronics deals with spin-charge coupling in metallic systems; similar effects in insulators belong to the field of multiferroics.

The fundamental difference between spintronics and conventional electronics is that, in addition to the charge state, electron spin is used as a further degree of freedom, which has implications for the efficiency of data storage and transmission. Spintronic systems are commonly realized in dilute magnetic semiconductors (DMS) and Heusler alloys, and are of particular interest in the fields of quantum computing and neuromorphic computing.
