The Industrial Revolution freed up a lot of Humanity from Physical Drudgery, 

Artificial Intelligence has the potential to free up Humanity from a lot of the Mental Drudgery.

 

 

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a broad multidisciplinary area drawing from computer science, neuroscience and cognitive science, linguistics, statistics, applied mathematics and many other areas of research.
  • AI is the study and design of intelligent agents where an intelligent agent (IA) is an autonomous entity which observes through sensors and acts upon an environment using actuators (i.e. it is an agent) and directs its activity towards achieving goals (i.e. it is "rational"). Intelligent agents may also learn or use knowledge to achieve their goals. They may be very simple or very complex. A reflex machine, such as a thermostat, is considered an example of an intelligent agent. 
  • Russell & Norvig (2003) group intelligent agents into five classes based on their degree of perceived intelligence and capability: simple reflex agents, model-based reflex agents, goal-based agents, utility-based agents, learning agents. 
  • To actively perform their functions, Intelligent Agents today are normally gathered in a hierarchical structure containing many “sub-agents”. Intelligent sub-agents process and perform lower level functions. Taken together, the intelligent agent and sub-agents create a complete system that can accomplish difficult tasks or goals with behaviors and responses that display a form of intelligence.
  • In the field of artificial intelligence (AI), computer science is being leveraged to create intelligent machines that more closely resemble humans in their functions. The knowledge engineering that allows computers to simulate human perception, learning, and decision-making is based on access to categories, properties, and relationships between various information sets.  
  • Every art and every inquiry, and similarly every action and pursuit, is thought to aim at some good; and for this reason the good has rightly been declared to be that at which all things aim. There are four goals to pursue in artificial intelligence: systems that think like humans, systems that think rationally, systems that act like humans and systems that act rationally.
 
AI, machine learning, deep learning, autonomous systems and neural networks are not just buzzwords and phrases. Increased computing power, more efficient hardware and robust software, as well as an explosion in sensor data from the Internet of Things - are fueling machine learning, and moving actionable data and intelligence towards edge devices. As AI makes devices, including smartphones and automobiles, more intelligent, mobile is becoming the key platform for enhancing all aspects of our lives, having an impact now and in the future.
