EITA Biomedical and Healthcare Workshop 2014

   <DRAFT>

The EITA will sponsor a business workshop on new media and healthcare (the EITA-New Media and Healthcare 2014) on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (the TECO in New York). The conference theme for the EITA-New Media and Healthcare 2014 is "Recent Advances in New Media and Heathcare".

"Research breakthroughs made in the lab hold great potential to improve the lives of millions of people worldwide; but the challenge remains in how to bring scientific innovation to the marketplace in the form of relevant products, services, therapies, diagnostics and cures" - [University of Washington C4C]. The main purpose of the workshop is to bridge the gap between academic research outcomes and the commercial potential of those discoveries. Please visit the website of the EITA-New Media and Healthcare 2014 for more conference details.

The rise of new media has increased communication between people all over the world and the Internet. It has allowed people to express themselves through (at least for now) Internet, blogs, websites, computer multimedia, pictures, and other user-generated media. The vision of “Internet of Things” with more than 50 billion connected devices (containing embedded sensors and actuators, etc.), linked through (often using the same Internet Protocol (IP) that connects the Internet) wired and wireless networks by year 2020, will see profound changes in the way people, businesses and the society interact.

With ubiquitous mobile broadband-enabled internet access, connectivity and networking are becoming completely independent of location. The rapid evolution of wireless technologies coupled with advances in related fields such as biosensor design, low power battery operated systems, diagnosing and reporting for intelligent information management, etc. has opened up many new applications for wireless systems in medicine. A revolution in healthcare is quietly brewing. Social media and mobile devices have swiftly become more ubiquitous in the healthcare industry. As patients continue to gain access and share healthcare information through various forms of online media, healthcare organizations have started to use social media to better connect with patients and their community on a wide range of healthcare issues. The “Internet of Things” will make health monitoring, diagnostics and treatment more personalized, timely and convenient, while also lowering costs.

Teams and individuals  - including university researchers, entrepreneurs, executives, attorneys, venture capitalists, angel investors, industry and regulatory experts, and other key advisers - interested in new media and healthcare business/technology are encouraged to join the EITA-New Media and Healthcare 2014 Workshop to explore the challenging issues that surround the industry as well as network with other healthcare professionals.

The EITA-New Media and Healthcare 2014 will feature a keynote speaker as well as four plenary sessions including:

  • New Media and Multimedia Systems, Web, Cloud Computing and Data Mining
  • Machine Learning and Big Data, In Silico Research and Biomedical Informatics
  • Recent Advances in Wireless Healthcare and the Internet of Things (IoT): Biomedical Wireless Technologies, Networks, and Sensing Systems
  • Medicine and Life Sciences, Biomaterials, Biomedical Sciences and Engineering
