- Overview

Satellites that are launched in to the orbit by using the rockets are called man-made satellites or artificial satellites. Artificial satellites revolve around the earth because of the gravitational force of attraction between the earth and satellites.

There are over 3,000 artificial satellites currently operating around Earth, but what are they actually being used for? Unlike the natural satellites (moon), artificial satellites are used in various applications. The various applications of artificial satellites include:

  • Weather forecasting
  • Navigation
  • Astronomy
  • Satellite phone
  • Satellite television
  • Military satellite
  • Satellite internet
  • Satellite radio
  • Geological studies
  • Earth's magnetic field studies
  • Sun studies
  • Earth's surface mapping
  • Missile launch detection
  • Earth's atmospheric studies
  • Etc.

- Emerging Satellite Applications

Emerging Satellite Applications include:

  • Remote sensing
  • Earth observation
  • Exploration
  • Research
  • Space tourism
  • Ocean data
  • Earth's atmosphere
  • Maritime
  • Offshore energy
  • Disaster response
  • CubeSats
  • Scientific projects outside of Earth orbit
  • Etc.
