- Overview

5G will bring a massive change to cloud computing. 5G is expected to revolutionize the network and communications industry by providing ultra-fast transmission rates that can be as much as 100 times faster than the existing 4G.

With the introduction of 5G networks, business network infrastructure and design will be reimagined. 5G will unleash enormous computing power. Low latency, greater capacity and faster network speeds will be catalysts, especially for cloud computing. The deployment of next-generation networks will accelerate cloud business adoption.

A number of industries will benefit from what 5G has to offer. From the healthcare industry to the automotive industry, from smart homes to smart cities and beyond, 5G’s features change the landscape, allowing for several applications that 4G just couldn’t handle. With the increase in potential industries, both tech- and non-tech related, there will be an increased need for cloud services.

- Cloud and Connectivity in the 5G Era

The combination of 5G and cloud technologies will enrich the capacity, functionality, and flexibility of a number of industries, especially for cloud businesses themselves. Here is how 5G’s improvement of cloud technologies will benefit some innovations, including Streaming data and analytics. Industrial IoT (IIoT), Edge computing, Artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP). Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).

As 5G and its applications evolve, there will be significant technology adoption in the above areas. These areas involve huge and complex workloads, making cloud computing a key component. We are a few years away from when 5G will become mainstream network technology, but such a time isn’t as far as it seems.

Currently, the 3GPP Release 15 standards for this next-generation network classified 5G devices as non-standalone devices. It means these devices can’t perform independently and need significant modifications to network standards and infrastructure. Thus, enterprises, telecommunication firms, and cloud businesses have a few years to design and implement their 5G strategy.

- 5G Will Drive Edge Intelligence

With the 5G network infrastructure creating a completely new layer of “fog,” 5G will allow companies to feel more secure within their own private networks. In the same way that cloud virtualization transformed existing business systems over the past decade, the combination of network performance and edge compute capabilities will result in an “edge virtualization” that will change the way IoT operates.

5G and edge compute are tightly intertwined. Edge compute is a system function that provides the ability to perform digital computation in devices that exist at the edge of the IoT stack. Three key attributes will drive the transformation in edge intelligence: ultra-dense network node deployment, increased bandwidth from the higher frequency spectrum. and private instances enabling interoperability and choice between public and private networks. As the 5G network must deploy many network nodes, as many as one every 50m, massive new amounts of edge compute are going to emerge near the edge of IoT.

- Wireless 5G Cloud Network

The 5G telecom cloud is a software-based cloud infrastructure. It supports flexible placement of 5G network applications/functions, dividing a single infrastructure into multiple slices of the network. In this way, it provides a wide range of solutions such as URLLC and eMBB.

Each generation of networks opens the door to new innovations. 5G networks will significantly expand the commercial potential of cloud computing. Cloud computing has played a key role in the digital transformation of enterprises.

5G will power the cloud, enabling businesses to respond faster and meet real-time business demands. Customizing existing cloud architectures will determine whether we can unlock the potential of new technologies. Cloud environments powered by 5G technology will change the way organizations conduct business.
